Beyond the Forehead: Anti-Wrinkle Areas You Might Not Know About

Most people think of anti-wrinkle injections as three things: forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. That is where the majority of treatments happen, and for good reason.

But the same treatment has a much wider set of anti-wrinkle treatment areas than most people realise, and several of them have very little to do with lines at all. They are about shape, balance and comfort.

The Lip Flip

A small amount of product placed along the upper lip border temporarily reduces the movement of the muscle that pulls the lip inward. The lip then sits slightly more outward when you smile, so a little more of it shows.

It does not add volume, so it is not an alternative to filler. People tend to ask for it when their upper lip disappears when they smile, or when they want something subtle rather than a change in size.

Gummy Smile Softening

If a lot of gum shows when you smile broadly, that is usually because the muscles lifting the upper lip are particularly strong. Treating those muscles reduces how far the lip travels upward.

The aim is a softer, more even smile, not a frozen one. This is a good example of an area where a small difference in placement changes the result considerably.

Non-Surgical Brow Lift

The brow sits in a tug of war between the muscles that lift it and the muscles that pull it down. Reducing the movement of the muscles that pull downward lets the lifting muscles win by a millimetre or two.

The effect is modest and it is not a substitute for surgery. Many clients notice their eyes look a little more open and less tired, which is often what they were describing in the first place.

Masseter Slimming

The masseters are the chewing muscles at the angle of your jaw. If you clench or grind your teeth, especially overnight, they can become enlarged over time.

Treating them can help in two separate ways. It may reduce clenching and grinding, along with the jaw ache and headaches that come with it. Over several months it can also soften the width of the lower face. Some people come for the comfort, some for the shape, and plenty for both.

Chin Dimpling

The chin muscle can create a pebbled or dimpled texture when it contracts, sometimes described as an orange peel look. It tends to become more noticeable with age as the overlying skin thins.

A small treatment here smooths the surface of the chin and can slightly soften a deep crease between the chin and lower lip.

Neck Bands

The vertical cords that appear down the front of the neck are the edges of the platysma muscle. As it becomes more active with age, those bands stand out more, particularly when you speak or tense.

Treating along the bands reduces how strongly they pull, so the neck looks smoother in movement. Results here vary more than in other areas and depend a lot on skin quality, so an honest assessment matters.

Why These Are Not Standard Areas

These are more technical than the standard three areas. They involve muscles that also do useful everyday jobs like smiling, speaking and chewing, so dosing and placement need to be precise and tailored to how your face actually moves.

That is why advanced anti-wrinkle treatment always starts with a consultation rather than a booking form. Jovanne will look at your movement, talk through what is realistic, and tell you if an area is not suitable for you.

The Bottom Line

If you have ruled out anti-wrinkle treatment because you do not have forehead lines, it is worth knowing how much else it covers. A consultation with Jovanne is a conversation, not a commitment, and clients come to Opal from across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire.
