Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most popular treatments at Opal Aesthetics, and one of the simplest ways to soften the lines that form through years of everyday facial expression. Frowning, squinting and raising your brows all leave their mark over time, and this treatment eases those lines without changing the way your face looks when it moves.
Treatment is quick and convenient, typically taking 10 to 30 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated. A single area, such as frown lines, can be completed in just a few minutes, while a three area treatment is usually finished within 30 to 40 minutes.
With no downtime required, you can return to your day immediately. Results develop gradually over the following days rather than appearing all at once, which is part of what keeps the outcome looking natural.
Every treatment at Opal Aesthetics begins with a consultation. Jovanne is a qualified aesthetics practitioner based in Bedford, and no treatment goes ahead until your suitability, medical history and goals have been discussed properly.

Book This TreatmentThe lines that this treatment addresses are known as dynamic lines. They are created by movement rather than by the skin itself, which is why they deepen when you frown or smile and soften when your face is at rest.
A very small amount of a purified protein is injected into the specific muscles responsible for that movement. This temporarily reduces how strongly those muscles contract. With less repeated creasing, the skin above them has a chance to settle and the lines become less visible.
Because the effect is temporary, the treatment is not permanent and is usually repeated every few months to maintain the result. Some clients find that over time, and with consistent treatment, the lines take longer to return.
It is worth knowing the distinction between dynamic lines and static lines. Static lines are visible even when your face is completely still, and they are influenced by sun exposure, collagen loss and skin quality. Anti-wrinkle injections may soften them slightly, but treatments such as advanced microneedling or a bio peel are usually better suited to improving overall skin texture and tone. Jovanne will talk you through which approach fits your skin at consultation.
Frown lines. The vertical lines between the brows, sometimes called the elevens. These are the most commonly requested single area, and softening them often has the biggest effect on how tired or cross someone looks at rest.
Forehead lines. The horizontal lines across the forehead. These are usually treated alongside the frown area rather than on their own, as the two muscle groups work against each other and treating one in isolation can look unbalanced.
Crow's feet. The fine lines that fan out from the outer corners of the eyes when you smile or squint. This area responds well and is a popular choice for clients who want a subtle, rested look.
Most clients start with one or two areas and build from there. There is no obligation to treat all three, and Jovanne will never recommend more than your face actually needs.
A men's treatment is also available at £250. Male facial muscles are typically stronger and cover a larger area, so a higher product volume is generally required to achieve a comparable result.
Beyond these three areas, a range of advanced anti-wrinkle treatments is available for the lips and smile, nose, brow, chin, jawline and neck, including the lip flip, gummy smile softening, non-surgical brow lift and masseter slimming. Prices start from £100.
Consultation. Before anything else, Jovanne will go through your medical history, discuss what is bothering you and assess how your facial muscles move. This is also the point to ask questions. If the treatment is not right for you, she will say so.
The treatment. The skin is cleansed and the injection points are marked. A series of very small injections is then given using fine needles. Most clients find it far more comfortable than expected, and the whole process is over quickly.
Straight afterwards. You may notice small raised bumps at the injection sites, similar to tiny insect bites. These usually settle within an hour. Mild redness is normal and short lived.
Days three to five. This is when most clients first notice a change, though it tends to be gradual rather than dramatic.
Days ten to fourteen. Results are fully settled by this point, and this is when your outcome should be assessed rather than earlier. If any small adjustment is needed, this is the right time to discuss it.
If you are booking ahead of a wedding, holiday or event, allow at least two to three weeks so everything has time to settle comfortably.
This treatment tends to suit people who have started to notice lines that linger even when their face is at rest, or who feel they look tired or stern when they are not. It is equally common among clients in their late twenties looking to slow the development of lines, and clients in their fifties and beyond wanting to soften lines that are already established.
It is not suitable for everyone. The treatment cannot be carried out if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have certain neuromuscular conditions, or if there is an active skin infection in the area to be treated. Some medications and medical conditions also need to be considered.
This is exactly what the consultation is for. Suitability is assessed individually, and Jovanne will decline to treat if it is not appropriate. That is not a sales tactic, it is how a treatment involving a prescribed product should be handled.
For the first 4 hours: avoid touching, rubbing, or pressing the treated areas. Do not apply makeup or any topical products to the skin. Avoid laying flat or leaning forwards for prolonged periods.
For the first 24 hours: avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and extreme heat including saunas and sunbeds.
For the first 2 weeks: avoid facials or skin treatments in treated areas. Results take around 10 to 14 days to fully settle, so please allow this time before assessing your outcome.
You will be given full written aftercare guidance at your appointment, and you are welcome to get in touch afterwards if anything concerns you.

If you are not sure whether your area is covered, get in touch and we will let you know.
We use very fine needles so you may feel a slight pinch or sting, but the treatment is quick and very well tolerated by most clients. Most people describe it as a brief scratch rather than pain, and no anaesthetic is usually needed.
Results typically last 4 to 6 months, though this varies from person to person depending on metabolism, muscle strength and how many areas were treated. With regular maintenance treatments, many clients find the effects become more prolonged over time.
Jovanne takes a conservative approach that preserves your natural expression while softening the lines that concern you. The goal is a refreshed, rested look rather than a frozen one. If you are unsure, starting with one area is a sensible way to see how your face responds.
The most commonly treated areas are the forehead, the frown lines between the brows, and crow's feet around the eyes. These can be treated individually or in combination as a two or three area treatment.
None. Mild redness or small raised bumps at the injection sites may be visible for a short time but typically settle within a few hours. You can return to your usual activities straight away.
Most clients begin to notice a change from around day three to five. Results continue to develop and settle fully by around 10 to 14 days, which is when your outcome should be assessed.
Allow at least two to three weeks before a wedding, holiday or special occasion. This gives results time to settle fully and leaves room for a review appointment if any small adjustment is wanted.
This treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, or have an active skin infection in the area to be treated. Your suitability is assessed individually at consultation before any treatment goes ahead.
