Say goodbye to excessive sweating and hello to feeling more confident. Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes sweating well beyond what your body actually needs to regulate its temperature. It can be frustrating, uncomfortable and quietly draining on everyday confidence, from damp clothing and visible underarm patches to clammy hands or feet.
At Opal Aesthetics we offer targeted injectable treatment for hyperhidrosis affecting the underarms, hands and feet. It is one of the most reliable options available for excessive sweating, and for many clients it changes how they dress, how they shake hands and how much they think about it day to day.
Treatment typically takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on the area, with no downtime required. You can return to your usual routine straight away.
Every treatment at Opal Aesthetics begins with a consultation. Jovanne is a qualified aesthetics practitioner based in Bedford, and no treatment goes ahead until your symptoms, medical history and goals have been discussed properly.
Pricing is confirmed at consultation, as it depends on the area being treated and how much product is required. As a guide, hyperhidrosis treatment typically falls between £250 and £350.
You will always be given an exact price before you commit to anything.
Book a ConsultationSweating is triggered by nerve signals travelling to the sweat glands. In hyperhidrosis those signals are overactive, so the glands are switched on far more often, and far more strongly, than the body needs them to be.
A very small amount of a purified protein is injected just under the skin across the affected area in a grid of tiny injection points. This temporarily interrupts the nerve signals responsible for stimulating the sweat glands in that specific area, which significantly reduces how much you sweat there.
The effect is local. Only the treated area is affected, and your body continues to regulate its temperature normally everywhere else.
Because the effect is temporary, the treatment is not permanent. Nerve signalling gradually restores itself over the following months, and treatment can be repeated when sweating begins to return.
Underarms. The most commonly requested area, and the one that tends to give the longest lasting and most predictable result. Ideal if you find yourself avoiding certain fabrics or colours, changing tops during the day, or planning outfits around visible sweat patches.
Hands. Designed to reduce excessive sweating of the palms, which can make everyday things such as shaking hands, using your phone, holding a pen or handling objects feel awkward or uncomfortable. The palms are more sensitive than the underarms, so comfort measures are used during treatment.
Feet. Helps reduce excessive sweating of the soles, which can be particularly worthwhile if sweaty feet cause discomfort, odour, damp footwear or slipping inside shoes.
Areas can be treated individually or in combination. Jovanne will assess the affected area at consultation and advise what is realistic for you.
Consultation. Your appointment begins with a proper conversation about your symptoms, how long they have been going on, what you have already tried and what you are hoping for. Your medical history is reviewed and the area assessed to make sure the treatment is suitable for you before anything goes ahead.
The treatment. The area is cleansed and mapped out. A series of very small injections is then given just beneath the skin across the affected area. Underarms are usually very comfortable. For hands and feet, numbing cream or cooling is used to keep the experience manageable.
Straight afterwards. You may notice small raised bumps at the injection sites, similar to tiny insect bites, along with mild redness. These usually settle within an hour or two.
Days two to seven. This is when most clients first notice sweating starting to reduce.
Around two weeks. The full effect has settled by this point, and this is when your result should be assessed rather than earlier. If any small adjustment is needed, this is the right time to discuss it.
If you are booking ahead of a wedding, holiday, exam period or big presentation, allow at least two to three weeks so the treatment has fully settled beforehand.
Results vary from person to person, but many clients experience a noticeable reduction in sweating for up to 6 months. Underarm treatment tends to last the longest, while hands and feet can sometimes be a little shorter.
Rather than stopping abruptly, sweating returns gradually as the effect wears off. Most clients find their own rhythm over time and book their next appointment when they start to notice it creeping back. Many choose to time treatment ahead of the warmer months.
This treatment tends to suit people whose sweating goes beyond ordinary warmth or nerves, and who have already found that strong antiperspirants are not doing enough. It is common among clients who feel restricted in what they wear, who find social or work situations uncomfortable because of it, or who simply want to stop thinking about it.
It is not suitable for everyone. The treatment cannot be carried out if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have certain neuromuscular conditions, or if there is an active skin infection in the area to be treated. Some medications and medical conditions also need to be considered.
Excessive sweating can occasionally be a sign of an underlying medical condition. If your sweating started suddenly, affects only one side of the body, happens mainly at night, or comes alongside other symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, please speak to your GP before booking a cosmetic treatment.
Suitability is assessed individually at consultation, and Jovanne will decline to treat if it is not appropriate. That is not a sales tactic, it is how a treatment involving a prescribed product should be handled.
For the first 4 hours: avoid touching, rubbing or pressing the treated area, and do not apply any products to the skin.
For the first 24 hours: avoid deodorant, antiperspirant, moisturiser and makeup on the treated area. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and extreme heat including saunas, hot tubs and sunbeds. If your feet were treated, wear loose comfortable footwear rather than tight or unbreathable shoes.
For the first week: avoid hair removal such as waxing or shaving in a treated underarm, and avoid facials, massage or other treatments over the area.
For the first 2 weeks: results are still developing, so please allow the full two weeks before assessing your outcome.
You will be given full written aftercare guidance at your appointment, and you are welcome to get in touch afterwards if anything concerns you.

Most people begin to notice a reduction in sweating within two to seven days. The full effect usually settles by around two weeks, which is when your result should be assessed rather than earlier.
This varies from person to person, but many clients experience a noticeable reduction in sweating for up to 6 months. Underarms tend to give the longest lasting result. Hands and feet can be a little shorter. Treatment can be repeated once sweating gradually returns.
A series of very small injections is given across the treatment area using fine needles. Underarms are generally very well tolerated. The palms and soles are more sensitive, so a numbing cream or cooling is used to keep you comfortable.
Pricing is confirmed at your consultation because it depends on the area being treated and how much product is needed. As a guide, hyperhidrosis treatment typically falls between £250 and £350. You will always be given an exact price before you commit to anything.
Some people notice a slight increase in sweating elsewhere on the body, often called compensatory sweating. It is usually mild and most clients do not find it troublesome, but it is worth being aware of before treatment. Jovanne will discuss this with you at consultation.
None. Mild redness or small raised bumps at the injection sites may be visible for a short time but typically settle within a few hours. You can return to your usual activities straight away.
Please avoid applying anything to the underarms for 24 hours after treatment. After that you can use deodorant as normal, although many clients find they need it far less once the treatment settles.
A small number of people experience temporary mild weakness in grip or fine finger movement after palm treatment. Where it happens it is short lived and settles on its own. If your work or hobbies depend on fine hand strength, tell Jovanne at consultation so this can be factored in.
This treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, or have an active skin infection in the area to be treated. Excessive sweating can occasionally point to an underlying medical condition, so if your sweating is new, one sided or came on suddenly, please see your GP first.
Yes. Alongside studio appointments in Bedford, mobile appointments are available across Bedfordshire and into Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire, including Luton, Milton Keynes, Ampthill, Biggleswade and Leighton Buzzard.
